A seregeket minden esetben a sereglisták alapján állítjuk össze. Ez két fő részből áll:
1. Detachments: alap formációk. Megadja, hogy az adott formáció alapesetben mely egységekből áll, ezeknek mi a pontértéke és milyen egységekkel fejleszthető, bővíthető.
2. Upgrades: fejlesztések. Az itt szereplő egységekkel fejleszthetők az alap formációk. Általában az egységenkénti költséget tartalmazza.

A seregek összeállításakor van néhány alapvető szabály, amit be kell tartani:
- minden seregben kell, hogy szerepeljen egy supreme commander
- az egyes formációk nem vonhatók össze
- ha a sereg szabályai másként nem rendelkeznek a sereg legfeljebb 1/3 pontértékéig vásárolható aircraft vagy war engine egység
A sereg összeállításakor tekintetbe kell venni a várható ellenfelet, így nem árt legalább alapvető ismeretekkel rendelkezni más seregek erősségeiről és gyengéiről. Ezekről majd a későbbiekben, a seregek bemutatásánál lesz szó.
